Rapidographs are really nice to work with as you don't have to change tips - there are 8 pens in the set all with different size tips. You can use India Ink, or even colored liquid acrylic ink in these pens. Today, I just used Gorilla Ink as I knew I was going to lay in some color with the watercolor pencils.
The watercolor pencils remind me of my Neocolors. You color on the pigment, and then with a brush, lay down water and watch the color flow. I think I could have a relationship with these. They take some getting used to - and mind you, I did not use watercolor paper because I was using rapidographs. The paper in my sketchbook accepted the water - but didn't allow me much time before it pilled.
Sabrina was in the studio today too, working on her journal and a few paintings to match her newly redecorated bedroom. Unlike when I'm piecing, or working on an art quilt, we were both able to work at the same table - which was nice. Lots of laughing, lots of singing and talking. A great way to spend a few hours on a rainy Monday afternoon!
I plan on spending more time with my old pen and ink set from high school. I'm going to dig it out tomorrow. I forgot how much I enjoy the simplicity of layering on dots, crosshatches and lines over bright white bristol. Ahhh the simple things in life.
I've never heard of rapidograph pens but I looked them up on Blick - they seem very cool! Sounds like you had a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteHi Cathie. I love what you are working on.
ReplyDeleteThese are delightful, and yes, it is nice to just scribble away and have fun. You and your daughter have such a good relationship. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing all these drawings. Such lovely colors...a little artist garden you have there.
ReplyDeleteMy word is: Adicti... so fitting.
what a pleasure it is to see this.
ReplyDeleteHello my friend - your post really cheered me up today. I'm feeling down over the CPS thing and other people using my photos on their blogs without asking me. I's so fed up with how people just help themselves!!! (sorry, I'll stop moaning now, promise!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I wish you lived next door so I could sit round that table too and draw and paint and sing (but I wouldn't wish the singing on anyone LOL). Loved your explanation of the different types of pens and water colours. I hope I get some time soon to just have a play like this! I haven't worked in my sketchbooks for a little while now and I'm feeling scratchy about it
Oh my, what a moany person I am today - please excuse me everyone, I'm not usually like this - HONESTLY!!!
i spent some quality time with my son. a mighty good company kids are.
ReplyDeleteThese look just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteReally love them!
Got something for you on my blog!
Andrea.
most definitely a wonderful weekend full of singing and laughter ... must have been something in the air. :) I'm thrilled to hear that you've decided to revisit old loves ... looks like you picked it back up with ease!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you and Sabrina had a delightful time! Sad to hear it was raining though! Hope you had nice weekend too!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are wonderful...I especially love the flowers...they are beautiful! Sounds like fun, Cathie!

I just love thinking of your reconnecting with something that brings you pleasure and peace. Parallel play with the offspring is hard to beat as well. And I get such a kick out of that cow in the sidebar. makes me chuckle every time I see her.
ReplyDeletePen and inks, what a pleasure, and love your colours. And your side-bar!
ReplyDeletelove
Andrea
They are beautiful and look like they were fun to do! I haven't used Rapidographs since my college cartography class oh so many years ago. I still have them somewhere -- I think I'll have to dig them out!
