Your Vision Will Become Clear....

only when you look into your heart.
She who looks outside - dreams.
She looks inside - awakens.
             - Carl Jung

I do my fair share of both.

2010 is going to be a year of dreaming and awakening for me.  These are the plans I have outlined for myself for the next year:

My plans for myself while they appear short and sweet - are multi-tiered; for each of my four goals brings along with it many layers of planning, determination, perserverance and reward. Last year I lost 20+pounds (5 of which I gained back over the holidays as I stopped exercising for over a month)  but I am back on track and am ready to make myself ACCOUNTABLE once again - for the quality of my mind, spirit and body.

In 2010 I resolve to.....

1. Run a 5k in May and a 10k in October;
2. Consistently maintain my two journals (food and exercise journal & visual journal)
3. Re-evaluate the "things" in my life for their  usefulness, value (not monetary) and  purpose - and handle them accordingly; in anticipation of a huge life change;
4. Read the Bible Carol gave me - cover to cover in one year.

While these four goals appear short and succinct - the result of my adherence to them will be far reaching as within them exists many layers of learning and growing.

Now that I have gone to a three column blog - I am thinking I will dedicate that extra column to my health and fitness (spiritual, emotional and physical) journey.  I like recording my progress as it makes me accountabe to myself on a more serious level.  I found that while I was recording my P90X progress every day - it really made a difference in my level of dedication.

Every time I make New Year's Resolutions, it brings to mind a saying my mom used to tell me when I'd say, "mom, I'll do it later...."  she would say, "The best laid plans of mice and men, often go awry..."

Here's the actual poem that sentiment was taken from....

But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane,

In proving foresight may be vain;
The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
And lea'e us nought but grief an' pain
For promised joy!

   - Scottsman, Robert Burns

Accountability to MYSELF - is what keeps me going.   For the best laid plans most often DO go awry.
My plans - they're NOT going anywhere.

Now Let's Get This Party Started!

TOMORROW: Texture, texture and more texture.  I've been playing with all kinds of texture during the last week.  I'll post my pictures tomorrow.

  2. Cathie, I have got to tell you that your post spoke volumes to me. I have lost 4 stone now and lost my 2lb xmas weight, but know I am not tackling my food well enough, I am going to take your lead and keep a food and exercise journal - I am very accountable to myself now if I don't exercise but have been choosing to "overlook" the food indiscretions, so thank you and know you are not alone in this journey :)

  4. Suki - that little chubby guy in the picture - THAT is how I feel since I took over a month off from my diet and exercise program I started last May. I'm back at it today and feel better already.

  5. Goodness, goodness, girl. You sound like you're joining a monestary! Just kidding, but you really are discplined. I wish you all the luck at achieving your goals. I know you will. I was wondering how that exercise business was working out. I'm back on the treadmill, too, now that my health is back on track.

  10. Hi Cathieeee, great plans, and I love the poems, they are just wonderful. And the little mousy is so cute, Oscar would love it (;)
    Katie-Janes comment make me laugh, but I know what you feel about Christmas pounds and getting back to discipline, cause it's all about discipline, and the positive thing it can bring us, if we use it well, don't you think so?
    I send you lots of energy, and good vibes
    love
