A Day at the Outer Banks
Things have been prety hectic around the Recca household the last month or so and with Sabrina's upcoming Birthday and Confirmation and Sal's upcoming Graduation it doesn't look like it's going to slow down. Taking this into account Blaise decided we all needed a "day off" so the three of us (Sabrina, Blaise and I - as Sal had "fishing at the lake" plans with his friends) jumped into the Jeep and took off for the coast. Typically we can get to the beach in less than 2 hours, but we decided to take the scenic route down through the Outer banks (Hatteras, Nags Head, Pea Island) which took us more like 4 hours.
We ended up just south of Pea Island. The Outer Banks are beautiful because they are not "commercial" beaches. The OBX (as North Carolinians refer to them) are miles and miles of unspoiled, natural shoreline, dunes and beautiful historic lighthouses -- few or no hotels, no restaurants, no gas stations. There are several areas where you can access the beach with four wheel drive vehicles (that is what we did) or horses -- take your pick! We love living in North Carolina -- no traffic, no crowds, no hassles (even on a Holiday weekend) -- just beautiful peaceful beach and some wonderful "family time."
We left Toby and Gizmo home this trip -- but next time, they will be the first to be loaded into the Jeep!
